Present Position:
* Commercial barrister specialising as arbitrator, mediator, construction adjudicator, Also consulting in construction law and overseeing all legal aspects of major projects; acting as independent legal adviser and Dispute Board member to the Engineer to the Contract or Project Manager; and acting as Probity Auditor or Adviser.
Scope of former and current Work:
* As director of a number of client private companies since 1975 trading in the fields of shipping, land transport, property investment, removal and treatment of chemical waste, and the production of bio-diesel from tallow.
* Also appointed by Auckland Regional Holdings Limited (owned by the former Auckland Regional Council) as a director of Sea+City Projects Limited for the approximately $4 billion redevelopment of the “Tank Farm” on Auckland Harbour.
* Professional chairman of the Dilworth Trust http://http://www.dilworth.school.nz/dilworth (current assets approximately $450 million), and trustee of Melanesian Mission Trust Board (approximately $250 million), and trustee of smaller trusts (on an honorary basis) including the H E Fairey Trust for Disabled Children, the NZSAS Trust for serving and retired SAS members, the Chinese Language Foundation, and the Confucius Institute of New Zealand based at Auckland University.
Arbitrator
* Numerous appointments as sole arbitrator or as a member of arbitral panels.
* Including a number of ICC appointments by both the ICC Court of International Arbitration and by the parties, including one claim for just over USD 500 million (appointed by the Court). Former New Zealand Alternate Member of the International Commercial Court of Arbitration (Paris).
* Mainly in the field of construction disputes, but a number in relation to energy, property and commercial disputes.
Adjudicator
* Numerous appointments as adjudicator under the Construction Contracts Act 2002, by AMINZ, NZDRC, and by the parties.
Mediator
* Several mediations each year, principally in the field of contracting disputes.

* Sole Dispute Board for two projects funded by the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and AusAID.
Probity Auditor / Adviser
* Probity Auditor for the Auckland Public Transport Integrated Ticketing Project.
* Probity Auditor for the first phase of the Auckland Rail Electric Units (EMU) procurement.
* Probity Adviser for the end of the second phase of the Auckland EMU procurement.
* Probity Adviser for the first phase of the Auckland Rail Electrification Traction Tenders.

Peer Review of Procurement and Project Documents
* Over many years and in respect of many projects, including oil and gas exploration in New Zealand and in the South China Sea, tunnels, bridges, dams, and other civil engineering works.
* In the last few years, in respect of a proposed new gas-fired power station for Genesis Power; in respect of over $200 million worth of building projects for University of Auckland, and for numerous multi storey buildings including over 12 hotels.
* Recently in respect of various Auckland infrastructure projects having a total value of billions of dollars.
Independent Legal Adviser to the Engineer for the Contract
* A number of appointments in this capacity, including the second stage of the development at Macraes Mining in Otago, and for the Vector Tunnel Project in Auckland.
